KUALA LUMPUR (May 11): A seven-year fight by the Taman Tun Dr Ismail community to save half of Taman Rimba Kiara (TRK) in Kuala Lumpur from being split up for a luxury condominium project ended on a triumphant note when the Federal Court ruled in 2023 that there will be no development on the 25-acre plot. TRK was gazetted as a public park and green open space under the KL Structure Plan 2020.
Last year, the Cabinet directed the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to maintain the greenery in TRK and construct permanent housing for the 98 longhouse families on the current footprint. The residents are elated but not celebrating yet because the 98 families living in longhouses on TRK are still waiting for permanent housing promised to them in 1982, when they were moved there from Bukit Kiara rubber estate.
Many questions raised over the years remain unanswered: Why are these people still waiting? Who were behind the now-quashed development order? Who will build the new homes for the longhouse community, and when? A new BFM documentary video, Rumah Penantian, recaps this saga and reiterates the promise made but not kept.
F1, the movie starring Brad Pitt scheduled to open in summer, was filmed during real Formula One Grand Prix (GP) weekends. He was spotted at the Hungarian GP sporting an Ingenieur SL, one of the most sought-after watches from the history of IWC Schaffhausen. Fans of the star and the Swiss brand can hit the racetrack and get all pumped up by design, engineering, performance heart-stopping expertise at the wheel.
